Raza joined an Online TOEFL Course called “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” about two weeks ago, and he is already busy at work practicing vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
In the first step of his course, Raza is learning vocabulary by studying four main list of words: 200 basic words, 1500 college-level words arranged in sections of A-E (500), E-P (500), and P-Z (500). Raza also has downloaded all the audio files of the words so that he can listen to them on his iPod. Moreover, Raza has dozens of self-study quizzes that he can take to test his mastery of the words.

In the second step, Raza has more than 50 hours of video instruction designed to help him learn vowels, consonants, syllable division, grammatical word endings, word stress, sentence rhythm, intonation, thought groups, and blending. To help test his mastery of the lessons Raza studies, TOEFL iBT mentor Michael Buckhoff has designed two pre-tests and a post-test to pinpoint specific areas of weakness in Raza’s intelligibility. Finally, Raza records practice exercises at Michael’s Voxopop Discussion Group so that he can self-monitor and have his pronunciation progress monitored.

In the third step, Raza is able to learn how to solve his grammar problems by studying lessons designed to help him recognize common speaking and writing errors. There are more than 2,000 practice exercises in this part of the course, and Raza is making steady progress.

In the fourth step, Raza is completing one of more than 40 listening practice tests designed to help him improve his listening proficiency of academic lectures. In addition, there are dozens of useful lessons intended to help him learn all the tips and tricks of iBT listening so he will be ready to take the actual exam.

In the fifth step, Raza will complete 23 reading lessons to help her learn the tips and tricks for the iBT reading question types and the strategies for answering them. In addition, he will work on increasing his reading speed. Like many students, Raza was unaware of his own reading speed, so he started with the first practice test of 100 words per minute and answered the 7 comprehension questions that followed. His goal is to complete all the practice tests until he has acquired a reading speed of 350 words per minute with 80% comprehension.

In the sixth step, Raza will study a series of skill-building independent and integrated writing lessons to help him become more familiar with the organization and development of TOEFL style writing. Of course, practice makes perfect, right? Therefore, Raza will complete some of the more than 83 independent and integrated writing practice tests. The scores for the practice tests will be allocated by TOEFL iBT writing specialists or by founder, owner, and materials writer Michael Buckhoff.

Finally, in the seventh step, Raza will improve his speaking proficiency by going through a series of progressively more difficult independent and integrated speaking lessons. Then, when he is ready, he will begin posting practice tests at the Voxopop Discussion Group for “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT.” And, each time he takes a practice test, Raza will get comments from TOEFL iBT speaking specialist and linguistics and composition professor from California State University, San Bernardino.

And that is pretty much how Raza will be spending his afternoons for the next 3 months as he completes all the lessons in his new Online TOEFL Course. Soon enough, Raza will have solved enough language problems and will have developed enough skills to master the TOEFL iBT. And that is a good thing to be sure.
