With Michael’s course, Tina sharpened her English competence and ended up scoring high on the TOEFL iBT. However, this wasn’t Tina’s case to begin with. Originally, when Tina first subscribed, she commented how  she faced difficulty with the listening and speaking sections of the TOEFL. For instance, with the listening section, Tina regarded her difficulty with catching the main idea and important details of academic listening passages. And as for the speaking section, Tina commented how troublesome it was for her to speak with the proper word choice and word stress. Because of this, Tina studied the lessons in Michael’s course, and afterwards it resulted in Tina’s benefit. Care to know how?

Well to begin with, Tina regarded her difficulty in the listening section as to having trouble catching the main idea and important details of academic listening passages. So in order to help her improve, Tina worked on the lessons in both the reading and listening sections. With the reading section, Tina had multiple lessons which overall improved her ability to discern main ideas and details, understand vocabulary from context, understand the organization of reading passages including transitions, and have the ability to make inferences. Because of this, Tina developed key skills which helped her comprehension of many academic listening passages within Michael’s course. As for the listening section, Tina learned to catch the main ideas and important details of academic listening passages with multiple exercises that helped her develop key analytical skills in interpreting the reading task such as the many listening practice tests and insightful lesson plans.

With regards to Tina’s difficulty in speaking English with the proper word choice and word stress, Tina was advised by Michael to work on his pronunciation and speaking sections. With the pronunciation section, Tina had numerous Speak Clearly Lessons which developed her competence in syllable division, grammatical word endings, word stress, sentence rhythm, intonation, thought groups, and blending. As for the speaking section, Tina developed an organized approach to speaking with lessons that improved her skills in decoding the speaking task, organizing a coherent response, delivering rich details in the body of the speech, and ending with a conclusion.
