Carlo’s English was poor, and he had much difficulty pronouncing, speaking, and writing in English. A non-native English speaker, Carlos wanted to enter into a prestigeous U.S. University, UC-Berkeley to be exact, so he could major in Business Administration. Most U.S. universities require international students to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), and Berkeley required a minimum score of 80 on the internet-based TOEFL and 550 on the paper-based TOEFL. Wanting to improve his academic English, Carlo joined the Online TOEFL Course “The 7 Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT,” by Michael Buckhoff–writer, founder, and materials expert.

Firstly, Carlos had much difficulty pronouncing words in English. Wanting to improve his ability of vowels and consonants, he figured it would be best to work in the pronunciation section of “The 7-Step System.” In Michael’s pronunciation section, Carlo worked on numerous drills and practice tests in order to help him to learn stress, intonation, and pausing of words. And with his purchase of Michael’s Error Correction Service, he and Michael worked together through the Voxopop Discussion Group to improve his stress and pausing of certain words. With time, Carlo began enunciating words with proper pronunciation, and felt he was ready to practice his ability to accurately speak academic English.

Secondly, with Michael’s speaking section, Carlo was given many integrated and independent practice tests, plus 100′s of skill-building exercises in order to help him speak academic English. Correspondingly, Carlo was getting responses back from iBT Speaking and Writing specialist Michael Buckhoff daily to help his speaking accuracy and proficiency. Soon Carlo began scoring 26/30 in many assignments of speaking section of the TOEFL iBT course; therefore, he felt so much closer to attaining his goal of entering Berkeley. However, Carlo still needed to extensively practice in the writing section of “The 7 Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT.”

Thirdly, in the writing section of Michael’s Online TOEFL Course, Carlo furthered his academic English by improving his organization, grammar, and topic development. Through hundreds of skill-building exercises and various independent and integrated practice tests in the writing section of “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT,” Carlo and Michael worked periodically to target and improve his academic writing. As a result, Carlo began scoring 24/30 on the writing practice tests and felt as if his knowledge in organization, sentence structure, and development of ideas had improved drastically.

With this in mind, because of Michael’s full service and comprehensive lesson plans, Carlo enjoyed working with Michael’s “The 7 Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” and felt well on his way to passing the TOEFL and majoring in Business Administration at UC Berkeley.
