Example TOEFL Speaking Feedback from “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT”

Students who join the Online TOEFL Course “The 7-Step System to Pass the TOEFL iBT” complete pronunciation and speaking feedback almost daily, after which they get audio or video comments so that they can understand what speaking score they are getting and why.

Here is how it works:

A student goes to http://stealth.michaelbuckhoff.com and choose one of 300 possible independent speaking topics or chooses from one of 20 possible integrated speaking topics., Or, the student chooses a speaking topic from the Internet.  In this case, a student is posting a response to the following speaking prompt: Talk about an important news event that happened recently in your country.Describe the event and explain why it was important.

Here is the student’s response to the speaking task: Click to listen.

As the student answers the question, I provide comments so the student can understand delivery, language use, and topic development problems. I  score the response according to ETS’s official rubrics for independent and integrated speaking.  Watch the following video to see how I provide comments:

After getting comments, the TOEFL student takes notes and uses my feedback to improve and sends me another speaking practice test the next day so I can monitor her progress. Most students, over  a month, can actually improve their speaking fluency rather dramatically using this method of study.

Good luck!
